using vista home premium and a xbox360 as a extender the xbox 360 worked as
a media extender on media center edition 2005 but does not under vista.
xbox works under xbox live using a linksys router but cannot find the
computer. I even went as far as disabling the vista firewall to check to
no avail. Since it doesn't do that I assume it will not connect under media
center .. showing a private network, with discovery and sharing
.......anyone have any ideas. No other firewall installed and using avast
antivirus

Try shutting off or uninstalling Avast, as apparently it has problems with
some aspects of the 360 Extender's operation. If no joy, then try connecting
the 360 directly to the Vista PC - if that works then the router could be
the issue.

Hi "trndiispr":
Have you tried: open Media center and on the start page scroll to
Tasks, then click on "add an extender" and follow on-screen instructions to
connect your x-box? I first got my xbox 360 connected to Vista without
knowing about that and had lots of problems. Since then, it works great.
Good luck!
