I Live in Colombia, i'm trying to find out if i'll be able to use the DVR
features to record TV from a satellite settop box (Directv Latam), Is it
necesary to use the TV Guide function ?, Can the Media Center receive
composite or RCA signals instead of the direct coaxial cable connection ?
Thank you for the help, i'm trying to decide if a Windows Media Center will
be usefull for me

I live in Denmark and use MCE 2005 for all TV watching.

I connect via a coaxial cable, which carries both a digital satellite signal
as well as an analog antenna signal.
Disadvantage is that I do not get full benefit of the TV-guide, since all my
satellite channels are on 1 channel in MCE (I then only have "3 channels" in
total).
I also suspect the "mixed signal" to cause my tuner card to crash now and
then, but that's more a hardware problem I think.

Besides from that MCE 2005 is an excellent solution.

Would think that you can input composite or RCA if your tuner card supports
it, but eventhough you use good cables etc. don't expect a picture up to your
normal standards - especially not on a large size flat panel.

Well, first of all I don't know if you actually can get a MCE 2005 machine
since it's only available in Latin America for Mexico, unless you're planning
on going there and buy one system, if you do, that'll be like $20,000 pesos
plus shipping and other charges. And Yes, you can do all that even if you
live outside the United States, when you get a MCE pc you also get two IR
emiitters wich will help you control your satellite set-top box system and
actually if you use a RCA connection instead of the coaxial one you get a
better picture on your tv or monitor, so I guess that's a good option

I CAN'T SEE WHY IT WOULD WORK ANY BETTER OUTSIDE THE USA... IT DOESN'T EVEN
WORK CORRECTLY HERE IN THE USA!!!

I have NO CABLE SERVICE... Have my computer connected to my antenna.

My computer receives a C RYSTAL CLEAR PICTURE AND GOOD SOUND when watching
TV on the computer... BUT... IF I try recording the show I'm watching,
WITHOUT FAIL... the system will briefly indicate that it is recording, then
come back with an ERROR MESSAGE stating that my system "IS NOT RECEIVING ANY
SIGNAL" on the channel I AM CURRENTLY WATCHING ON THE COMPUTER!!!

I can't see ANY way to adjust the record sensitivity to defeat the "no
signal detected" error message when I try recording a show from the channel I
am currently watching with a good enough signal to give CRYSTAL CLEAR VIDEO
AND SOUND.

WHY THE HEY can't MEDIA CENTER record a show that it is receiving a crystal
clear video and audio signal on??? I honestly feel RIPPED OFF with the
difference I paid between getting a computer WITH the Windows Media Center
Edition AND built-in TV TUNER compared to what I would have paid for the SAME
SYSTEM with STANDARD Windows XP and either NO TV Tuner, OR after purchase,
adding my own TV tuner card.
