this is an intermittent problem does not happen all the time but it bug me a
lot
and severely interferes with my uptime and work as i have to reboot and lose
all data...
example:
i have window(s) explorer folder open, i close the folder with x button,
the os hangs, sometimes
example:
i have IE window(s) open, i close the window with x button, the os hangs,
sometimes

the hang:
- no blue screen, just the frozen desktop
- no errors reported
- can't bring up the task manager with ctrl al del
- mouse moves but can't bring up any application up or do anything but move
cursor
- on reboot event log shows no errors for windows explorer

this does not look like a hijack because it only happens the instance the x
button is pressed and does not happen all the time... happens with internet
disconnected or locked... does not matter.
it happens in both IE window or Explorer Folder window, other windows are ok
when closed.

basically, you press x button ( next to minimize, maximize ) on title bar of
either windows explorer or internet explorer to close them out and sometimes
windows just hangs...

spyware buffs, please, no need to post spyware links here, those are pretty
much in every thread already... i have about 15 antispyware progs with about
20 helper utilities from SisInternal, NirSoft etc, + a nice firewall, port
explorer, all bhos disabled, etc... all is clean and i don't think i am
injected unless it's a designer.
no other problems, system is stable and fast, no signs of spyware, virus or
hijacking, etc...

there are large number of windows explorer and internet explorer hangs out
there and i wonder if:

- anybody had or have the same problem
- anybody knows how to intercept and debug the x button callback
- how to make explorer.exe ( desktop ) more stable
- if possible to force explorer.exe to reload after crash
- anybody found a solution to this problem, other than "reinstall windows or
sp2"
- where to get the checksum on explorer.exe process sp2
- any pointers

ps. in most cases it's difficult to simulate the problem at it is intermittent

I have a similar problem for a long time. Windows Explorer stops responding
or hangs when I click any of the quick links in leftmost pane (folders must
be inactive).

I've re-installed from ground up several times. Problem appears only after
upgrade to MCE2004 and several visits to Windows Update.
