AS 4.0 (built 4343) always gives a pop-up error message about Outlook not
being my default mailer when device connects. Apparently nothing bad
happens when I just ignore the message, but it's becomming ennoying...

Is this a bug of AS 4.0?

PS: I currently use Outlook Express as my defaut mailer.

the exact message is:

"Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot
fulfill the message request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the
default mail client."

of course I don't want to set Microsoft Outlook as the default mail client,
and I want to be able to use Outlook Express or any other mail client I
want.

Why would it be a bug? All AS is doing is checking which is your default
mail program, it's not Outlook so it's just telling you.

You can ignore the message. You can set the default how you like, and can
change it too. Did you try setting Outlook as the default? Outlook can't
pick up mails unless you've set it up to receive them- it needs your mail
account details and passwords or it can't get them.

I use both programs, use OE as my email and newsgroup interface but use
Outlook for the diary (and a couple of other things) and have Outlook set as
the default. It makes no difference to the way either of the programs work.
btw Outlook can do pretty much everything OE does and even uses OE for
newsgroups.

Because previous version of AS did not show me this error pop-up all the
times.

Why would AS now do that? (it was not doing that in earlier version)

And why is it not happy that I use Outlook Express? I use the latest
version of Outlook Express, which is a supported MSFT application, used by
millions as a mailer on Windows X.

1) If there a way to prevent this message from popping up all the times?

2) What exacly AS cannot do when I use Outlook Express?

My default is Outlook Express.

I have excellent reasons to not use Outlook. That's not the point.

That doesn't make it a bug. Things are not bugs because they either don't
suit you or are different to earlier versions.
If everything remained the same in newer versions what is the point of newer
versions?

What advantages did the newer version give you over the older version that
made you decide to upgrade?

There are other things that AS does now, do you think *every* change must be
a bug? Things are not bugs because they either don't suit you or are
different to earlier versions.

If everything remained the same in newer versions what is the point of newer
versions? Things change, if you don't like them you can always go back
unless the newer version has some features you can't manage without- which
begs the question what are the extra features or advantages you expected to
get when upgrading? Or was it just 'It's a newer version'?

This was already answered. Did you try the suggestion?
