Hi guys.

Please apologise for my lack of knowledge in this area, but I'm having

problems sending certain people emails and I have no idea why.

I'm using out look and I get a email back from "postmaster@"

saying my email couldnt be sent... I know my email i working fine but

does anyone know what this is or what it means. I'm quite desperate to

sort this out as I'm trying to email a client a quote and it would look

so much better coming from my business email address rather than a

hotmail one or something.

Please any advice would be very gratefully received.

Cheers. Phil

Check your hosts file (if you don't know where this lives, Google for it).
See if the domain to which you're trying to send e-mail is aliased to

If everything looks fine there, do a DNS MX lookup on the domain. (If you
don't know what that is, Google is your friend again.)

A long(ish) shot.

1.    Is this a new development - was everything working fine until a few
weeks ago?
2.    Are you using AVG antivirus?

I've had a couple of customers recently who've experienced similar problems.
It transpired that they were both using btinternet (UK) as their ISP and
their SMTP relay.  Apparently btinternet implemented authentication on their
SMTP server(s) and AVG didn't like it.  If this is the case then there is a
simple configuration solution in AVG (not worth posting unless it's the case

This however affected ALL outgoing mail, so as I say it's a long shot but
perhaps worth mentioning.

This is interesting, since I've had trouble recently with some
outgoing mail being bounced with strange DNS look-up errors for
obviously correct domains.  I had assumed that the problem was with my
ISP and spent a lot of time on the phone with them yesterday, but I
use AVG...

What is the configuration solution?

1.    open AVG control centre
2.    double click on e-mail scanner
3.    choose personal e-mail scanner plug-in
4.    click on properties button
5.    select servers tab
6.    select SMTP: Host: Automatic and click on modify button
7.    here uncheck the "Activate the server and use..." option at the bottom
of the window

Outgoing e-mails will no longer be scanned and may hopefully solve the
