I have recently bought a domain and would like to set up squirrelmail
in order for me to get my emails from my own website instead of having
to use my hosting companies webmail service.
I have copied the squirrelmail directory to the root of my domain and
set up the config.php files to point to my imap server and smtp
server. When I go onto www.mydomain.co.uk/squirrelmail it loads up the
login page for squirrelmail, so far so good.
When I try to login with an invalid username or password it will then
display the error message:
ERROR: connection dropped by imap server.
When I log in with a valid username and password it will then come up
with the following error message:
Error opening ../data/default_pref
Could not create initial preference file!
/squirrelmail/data/ should be writable by user httpd
Please contact your system administrator and report this error.
Any help in this matter would be highly appreciated.
I don't use squirrelmail myself, but the message seems clear. You need
to make the directory /squirrelmail/data writable by the webserver.
You might want to follow up in the squirrelmail support site.
