What is the best way to put social bookmarks onto a website?
My client has an upmarket auction site (based in the UK) that does
promotions with time-limited special deals.
My client thinks that they need to put social bookmarks all over their
site in order to get customers to recommend to their friends.
1. Which sites should we link to
- Twitter ?
- Facebook ?
- Digg ?
- Delicious ?
- any others?
2. How MANY sites should we link to?
3. It it worth using www.addthis.com (or similar?)
4. Is it worth having more than one "Share toolbar"?
(My client wants TWO for some reason - on different parts of the page)
5. Should put social bookmarks onto every page on the site?
Any thoughts much welcome.
Re: Social Bookmarking - Any advice on best practice
Twitter and Facebook definitely, Digg and Delicious if your users are in
As many as possible.
Yes, but not alone. Use the official Twitter and Facebook link buttons for
their respective sites (not least because they are so common that people
will recognise them whereas they might not with any other design of
button), and AddThis for the rest.
Depending on your page layout, it can make sense to have them at both the
top and bottom. But don't put them in places where they might be mistaken
for navigational elements or adverts.
Put them on every page that people are likely to want to link to.
