Not if you use a 301 permanent redirect.
Might confuse visitors, who thought they were at abc.com/subdirectory/ and
find themselves at def.com/subdirectory/
Probably just as easy to place the subdir at def.com/ from the start.
But perhaps you're from the 'standing up in a hammock' school of webmasters?
