Re: safe to buy?
Never heard of it.
If you're saying that this happened shortly after she used that site,
then probably the webmaster news group is not the place to ask (there's
no reason why anyone here would know).
Your lday friend should have used a credit card, paypal or similar to be
protected when shopping online, rather than providing her bank account
details that apparently anyone could use to withdrawl all of her money
(that sounds suspicious in itself).

Re: safe to buy?
It looks fine to me. There are always stories of people who have been
ripped-off one way or another, but don't let that deter you from
shopping online. As long as you take reasonable precautions you'll have
nothing to worry about.
What are reasonable precautions?
Always use a credit card.
Don't allow withdrawls from your bank accounts.
Don't send money via Western Union or any other service that won't help
you recover your money in the event you don't get what you paid for.
This particular site offers you the option of using PayPal to process
your payment. If you use the "Checkout with PayPal" button on the
shopping cart screen, then this merchant won't have access to your
credit card info. All he'll get is the shipping address and
acknowledgement from PayPal that you have made a payment to his account.
You can also use credit cards at this particular site and I'm sure it's
fine to do so, but if you're paranoid about giving them your information
then just use PayPal to process your payment.
All credit cards protect you from unauthorized charges and from not
getting what you paid for, so there's really no need to worry about it.
