I want to put up a discussion forum. I'd be happy with a site that can
manage thousands of users posting hundreds of discussions per day.
I think I'm a little worried about starting with something small and
finding that the bandwidth is throttling my site - yet, at the same
time, I'm far from convinced that it'll be the success I'm aiming for -
so I don't want to start with too expensive a site.
I guess I'll be consciously avoiding big bandwidth issues such as binary
files. [let users post their binaries elsewhere and link to them from my
PS: I'm thinking of using dotnetNuke and would naturally prefer
PostgreSQL or Firebird to mySQL, although I will consider SQL Server if
the price is right. It's ages since I've used mySQL and I didn't like it
last time I looked because I'm the kind of person who wants to put as
much SQL code into SProcs as possible and mySQL SQL looked pretty basic
compared with the state of the art (Oracle) and the imitators (3 of
which I mentioned above).
I guess my site is looking to be co-hosted.
PS: Is ASP.NET 2.0 really important for a co-hosted site (security
wise)?. Is there any reason to still use ASP.NET 1.1 when putting up a
