hi all

i'm looking into my options here and wonder if anybody can provide a
suggestion/recommendation. we need to write an application for tablet pc
that will allow service techs in the field to sync records with a
consolidated db. i tried playing with sybase's sql anywhere a couple of
years ago and remember it being very complicated. i'm going to look into it
again as i'm sure things are much improved now, but can anybody recommend
another solution? the backend with be microsoft sql server 2005.

You're trying to do a complicated thing, and it's going to be complicated.
I have a couple buddies doing a VERY large distributed application with 3
levels of replication using SQL Anywhere, and it's working great for them.

I think replication is why people using Sybase SQL Anywhere.

Not relevant to the OP, nor to 90% of the world nowadays, but back in the
day this was SO SIMPLE just using the built-in replication technology of
Lotus Notes, long buried within the IBM megalith. And Ray Ozzie likewise at
his then-arch nemesis Microsoft - so why didn't MS get this functionality
into MSSQL?

Ahh, I guess I'm getting old. . .
