- Question about pagerank

Does pagerank constantly go up and down depending on your links on
other pr 1-10 sites.
I'm thinking of buying a website from someone with a pr4 rating. If
this person paid a lot to adverstise on pr5+ sites, does that make his
pagerank go really high?
Also, if you take down the links, will it drop down to like 0?
Re: Question about pagerank
probably - guess it would depend on your definition of "constantly"
maybe - are they relevant sites?
never seen a 0 - not that I pay much attention these days.
last time I investigated a PR4 was achievable without breaking into a
sweat, PR5 was doable with effort, PR6 required the help and support of
good and kindly folk with strong sites of their own.
never knowingly had a site at PR7 or above - but as I said, all this was
yeas ago when I thought this stuff might be important.
Please do remember that PR is just one of many metrics that go towards
indicating you have a site worth visiting. The only metric that really
counts is measured in your domestic currency.
Re: Question about pagerank
It doesn't go up and down on a daily basis like a yo-yo if thats what you
are asking. The PR of a page will change over time depending on the value
of the inbound links... as their page rank goes up and down so might yours.
It doesn't matter how he got the links... if he paid for them or not. The
number of inbound links will help determine the pagerank of the web page.
"Paid" links don't have any added value to them.
If you are asking "Could he have just gone out and bought 5-10 links
yesterday from PR5 pages to drive up his pagerank and is now trying to sell
his site to me as a PR4 site?" then you should know that pagerank doesn't
just change mystically overnight when a new link appears. It can take, at
times, months for a site's PR to go up to reflect new inbound links.
Probably not to 0. If you remove the links the PR will probably drop to 2
or 3 for a few months, maybe even a year or two... and over time it might go
down to a 1. It will probably (I said probably, not "definitly") not go
down to 0.
As far as buying the site goes:
First, if you are buying it just based upon its pagerank then you should
check out the whole site. Is the WHOLE site PR4? Or is it just the home
page is PR4 and the rest of the site is PR0?
Second, in that you are asking about things like "what if the links are all
taken down?" makes me suspect you might be thinking of buying the guy's site
just so you can use the domain name, pagerank and inbound links to slap up
some ads on the internet. If thats the case then your PR will probably drop
pretty quickly if you buy his site as the inbound links will probably vanish
quickly and Google will re-index the site and note all the changes in
And finally: if you are buying the site because you want to carry it on
(you don't plan to just use the domain name for advertising) then I'd say
the most important numbers to look at aren't the pagerank of the pages, but
the revenue the site brings in and what you think you can do for that (can
you boost revenue, find new revenue streams, etc).
