From the news pages - Daily Mirror (UK national paper)

March 14, 2006--Mirrorpix today announced the launch of Arcitext, the complete
digitised back catalogue of the Daily Mirror Newspaper from 1903 to present.
All pages are fully searchable online, offering immediate access and download
capabilities to every story ever published.

As the Mirror is the first in this field (certainly in the UK - I'd be
interested to look at you guys' alternatives) how long before the rest of the
papers follow suit?

That is pretty awesome indeed. Shame it's not a decent paper.

Reading that article:

    | The Daily Mirror is one of Britain's oldest national newspapers.
    | First published on 2nd November 1903 and holds the unique
    | distinction of being the first newspaper publication anywhere
    | in the world to use photographs (first used 7th January 1904).

for some reason I read "photographs" as "paragraphs". I considered how
difficult it must have been to skim-read the paper prior to 1904.

but the way to go?

and the supposed speed of the search according to Arcitext? We all know things
are getting more sophisticated.. are *we* in the UK leading, or is there
another paper somewhere in the world already using this "technology" ?

That's the query
