garbage code that FP and DW add over the years. Yesterday I got my
first "Expressions" clean up job request.
If Expressions is supposed to be an improvement over FP, Microsoft needs
to start over again. This is horrible and although it produces
*slightly* less garbage than FP, it creates a new class or id for every
paragraph. Even bolded words have their own individual span or id.
Nothing is where it belongs, the pages are a mess.
This new client thought it would be a quick hour or two job (don't they
all think it's an hour or two?), but when I quoted her roughly 2 hours
per page times 10 pages, she insisted that my $1200 quote was "price
This morning, she called back to give me the job. That's when I asked
for 50% down payment up front. She gives me the credit card number, it's
declined. She gives me another number - declined. She says "I have 5
more numbers we can try", I smell fraud.
I told her that I didn't have time for this anymore, have a nice day.

Just out of curiosity, how do you clean this up? I do little of this
myself, but when I do I copy the text off the web page (I think I got
that from Jerry) and add back in the html. Cleaning up the real html is

The best way is to clean up the html by hand, but with simple sites I
cut and paste off the website.
Without cutting and pasting, the first page is the hardest. Once you
know what to look for, each additional page shouldn't take more than an
hour or so. I always quote these jobs on the high side, in this case I
quoted 20 hours, but based on my experience (I get at least one of these
per week) I'm sure I would have been done in 10 - 12 hours.
