- moving database to new host

I managed to get all my stuff down from the Moose. Now I've secured a new
host and I want to set things up there like they were before.
I was using three db's- one each for WordPress, Coppermine, and phpBB.
I uploaded all the files for these, then using cpanel I created three
databases with identical names to my saved old ones. Then using phpMyAdmin
I imported the old db's into the new ones.
When I try to look at any of them I get an error. Variations of "Could not
connect to the database". So using cpanel I created a user with my old
credentials and added him to the db's, but same problem.
Is it because I didn't install the tools fresh from cpanel? It seems I
shouldn't have to do that.
I've been beating my head against this all morning. Any help is welcome!

Re: moving database to new host
Your host, assuming you have migrated to a reputable host, should
assist you. Perhaps they will require payment, but they should be able
to help. You did discuss this with them in the pre-sales negotiations
