I started to develop this tool with my brother (Jon) --
We are hosting with Tina.
What do you think of it?
If you post a code snippet (which is a button image hosted on my site)
on your layout or footer it will keep track of the client IP and
referrer and then when you click on the button it will detect the
referrer and generate a map of recent visitors to your web site. (hope
that makes sense).
Anyway, I'd like to say it was my clever idea but I really got it from
Shawn at DigitalPoint.
This is the code you would place on your site --
<a href='http://www.mapvisitors.com '>
<img src='http://www.mapvisitors.com/m.png' alt='Map Visitors'
Let me know if you have any suggestions. Jon did a lot of backend
enhancements recently that we didn't mention yet in the news blog,
because his house burned. http://news.mapvisitors.com /
Let me know if you place it on your site and if you want I'd be happy
to mention in the blog and link to your site.
I forgot to mention, I told a acquaintance contact via IM about it the
other day (we share tips on how to make money on the Internet) and he
asked me what use it is...
I had to think and reply, no real use really, just the novelty.
I think one problem is, the services I am using for geocoding --
hostip.info and Microsoft's Virtual Earth, are probably not as good as
even just AWStats for identifying the country, and as far as analytical
purposes, AWStats really tells you a lot more.
Still the graphical map novelty of it is cool IMHO. and it show
individual visitors where you can zoom in fairly precisely.
Thoughts on what would make it more useful?
