I've got a client that wants this:
Shipping integration with USPS, Fedex and UPS
Anyone done this? I've looked a bit at the FedEx site and what I've
seen there is a manual calculator where you enter zips, weights, etc...
Although I can see how to do this by having the server submit forms and
retrieve info, that method is vulnerable to any changes FedEx might
make in the form fields.
Re: live shipping calculations
You can contact them to allow you to feed them data live and return
their rates through published API's. We have done this successfully
with USPS, FedEx and UPS. They do not change their forms very often
and are very reliable. The only change we have had to make in the
last year has been when USPS changed the secure server we needed to
The rates change very often so it is good to get them real time. We
have internal freight calculator that are based on data we get from
the carriers but we are having problems with it. Problem is that the
rates change too frequently to keep it up to date and the carriers are
not sending the data out any more because it is easier for them to
maintain their web API's.
