Right-clicking a URL doesn't give me the option to open it in a new
window, and it would be pretty useless if it did - a news client
doesn't make a very good web browser!

You're not under the impression that you're posting to a web forum, by
any chance, are you?

And lo, Mark Goodge didst speak in alt.www.webmaster:

Mine does :P

Thanks for telling me that, Mark. Really useful to know.

I take it that by changing my URL to and the generally
snappy tone of your reply, you think my post is inappropriate for this

I thought it would be acceptable for a webmaster to use it to try and
communicate with other webmasters. Yes, my thinking was if they
listened to the audio stream on my site and liked it enough to add
a link on their sites, it would increase my traffic.

Why is this inappropriate?

What made it inappropriate was the fact that your post gave no
indication that you had participated in, or even read, this newsgroup
prior to posting an advert. Self-promotion is generally frowned on
here, and it's only common courtesy to engage in the discussions first
before you start telling people about your site.
