- How to access cPanel mail locally on Win XP?

I know how to download my mail (inbox, sent, whatever) via FTP and know
I can stick these files in another account to view them.
I want to get stuff off the server, back it up to CD, and occasionally
dig something out when I need it. I'm wondering about setting up Linux
under M$ Virtual PC, what else will I need? Specifically, will I have
to have cPanel to do this? Thanks.

You're making it more complicated than it has to be ;)
Simply, you need a client to download the msg's and it deletes them from
Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc.
All will do as you need.
