Re: has anyone ever been charged with ppc abuse ? like trashing your competition thru adwords, findwhat, Yahoo, Overture etc.

That would be a pure civil case.
The plaintiff would have to show enough reasonable belief that damage was
done to the reputation of the company.
But in most cases, the place where the ad rested, would simply trash the ad
if asked to do so.
There have already been several cases brought against various individuals
for posting "hate" material against a company, but the courts see most of
that stuff as "an opinion", or a parody, rather than making an attempt to
harm the company's reputation per se.
The New York Times newspaper had a one man fan club who originally owned
www.nytimes.com and he violently spoke out against the paper.
Eventually, money talked and now the newspaper owns the domain name.
I bleieve it would be an extremely hard case to prove that various ads
placed would do enough harm to one company that the company would feel it
had been harmed by these ads.
But if you did the same thing in a newspaper or a magazine, chances are the
paper or magazine wouldn't even print the ad.
Ain't the internet wonderful?
