I had a active Domain Name, but parked it for a few months. I looked
on Whois.net to check the expiration of the Domain Name in Aug 2006.
Whois.net said it expired on Sept 5 2007. I checked the Domain Name
again in on Oct 1 2006 and found it was registered to someone else! I
contacted the Admin Contact for the host and was told the following:
"It seems as though the whois domain registery always adds 1 extra year
to the expiration date, even though the expiration date is not that.
By doing a whois on your domain, you will see that:
Creation Date: 05-Sep-2003
Expiration Date: 05-Sep-2007"
I'm confused..how did the Domain Name get changed...in Sept 2006 when
in Aug 2006, Whois.net said it expired in Sept 2007?
Re: Domain Name Renewal & Whois
Interesting. My domains report the correct expiration date at
whois.net. So they're obviously incorrect in saying they always add 1
extra year to the expiration date.
How long did you pay for the domain? Can you go back and check your
receipt and the date?
It's always your responsibility as the domain owner to ensure your
domain is paid up. Others can remind you - but it's still your
I keep my customers' expiration information in a calendar so I can
quickly check to see which need to be renewed and remind them.
