only cost me another $10 a month to have a backup. That way if my
primary host goes down I can quickly change the nameservers to point to
Does that sound reasonable or is there a better way to do it?
Even though service outages are rare they often take a at least few
hours to resolve and in the mean time I typically lose more money that
it would cost me to pay for a full years worth of backup hosting
Re: Backup hosting
That's very reasonable. Are your sites dynamic or static? If they're
dynamic, you may need to setup an rsync for your databases, but that's
pretty easy and your host should be able to do it without any hassle.
If they're just static and you want to ensure it's always up, setup the
two, and think about round robin dns with your MX maybe on gMail.
