No, Active Directory is a directory service plus network authentication
system with integrated management tools. It is not required for Web server
functionality. It may however simplify achieving single sign-on and/or
distributed authentication in Web farms.

Windows 2003 RC2 (release candidate 2) is long past. The server product was
released in 2002, and it now hase a service pack.

Beachboy, did you mean R2 instead of RC2? R2 is the current version RC2
probably has timed out by now.
