wds_sl.exe shutdown problem Peter Boulton 08-27-2006

I'm running V 02.06.5000.5378 of Windows Desktop Search and Windows Search
Deskbar (UK version) on XP Pro with SP2 / Windows update fully enabled.

When I close Windows down I get a message saying that wds_sl.exe is not
responding to the closedown message and I have to end it manually.

I have seen a few references to this behaviour on earlier versions, but I
had understood that the version I am running was supposed to have fixed it.
Evidently not.

I am running Avast anti-virus / Outlook 2003 (if that's relevant). I only
installed the tabbed browsing option from the WDS installer, from the
multitude of other buttons on offer.

Any suggestions for correcting this issue? I've tried killing wds_sl.exe
using Process Explorer. There do not appear to be any adverse consequences
as a result.

TIA.

Pete

That issue is fixed in the beta versions of v3. You should try it out; it's
nice and stable, and performs faster than the v2 versions of WDS.

Thanks. I will check out V3 when it comes out. There are a couple of
adverse comments about it elsewhere in the group.

In the meantime, I have killed wds_sl.exe and renamed the file so it cannot
be found by Windows. WDS still seems to work fine / index correctly and XP
shuts down without the reported problem, so I'm wondering if this is a fix,
pending V3?
