Anytime you open a hole in your firewall you network is less secure than if
the hole was closed. A hacker will try to exploit the service holding the
port open. So you need to determine what service will use the port and keep
on top of that service for patches, updates, etc..
Personally I would use a VPN connection to the router/firewall.
