Well, depending on the specific items involved it differs, but, typically
you set the phone to discoverable, and hunt for it (new device/connection)
from the PC. You normally have to enter a PIN you make up on the PC and then
duplicate it on the phone to get the pairing done. From that point on, you
typically always see the phone in the BT app, and it says connected, if it
is. That is why I wondered if you really are connected. Once a connection
(pairing) is really established, normally you can query for common profiles.
Assuming serial is one, you select it and generally can select a comm port
on the PC. Depending on the WM device you may need to select one there too.
They do not need to be the same. On the PC then you tell AS what comm port
you set the BT too. To start syncing you have to select sync via BT on the
WM device, it doesn't just start when the devices are in proximity. It is
not like a headset that connects whenever it is seen.

Allowing insight into what smartphone, what laptop, what BT, etc. might
allow someone with the same, or substantially similar setup to help. As it
is, it is like asking how to set a preset station on my car radio.

Ok, I see what you are saying in needing a little more detailed
information here:) Sorry, but I thought you might be able to read my
mind?!?!

I have a treo650 and a Dell Latitude D820.

I've paired the two both from my palm and my computer. I think they
are connected because the phone makes a noise. Also, the computer
comes up with a transfer files option after the pairing and I'm able
to try to transfer files but have not been successful at it yet. When
the phone is black, and I start the transfer process, the phone comes
up and it says they are connected so that leads me to believe they are
in fact connected.

When I go into Blue Tooth Information Exchanger on my laptop, then
Options, then Paired Devices, I can see my phone there but in that
application, it doesn't allow you to change or even view any
settings. When I go into the Blue Tooth Settings, the phone is not
there. My keyboard is there that I use daily, my mouse is there that
I use daily and an ear device is there that I hooked up a long time
ago but haven't used in months. Any of those I could right click and
view which com they are using but for some reason, the treo doesn't
show up there.

Thanks for all of your help and I hope I'm stating this clear enough
to make sense.

Well this makes it significantly more difficult to answer. The 650 is a Palm
OS device is it not? This newsgroup deals with the Windows Mobile OS, and
yes, Treos do come with that flavor. Those would be the ones with a w
suffix. Pretty sure the 700s were the first ones with a choice. I haven't a
clue how you would HotSync over BT. Don't even know if you can.

Maybe someone here with a 650 that has WM will tell me I'm wrong and help,
but I'd suggest googling, (or windows live searching) for a Treo 650 forum,
or newsgroup.
