I would like to make a suggestion regarding video files. Many people have
them, but there's no unified way to tag these files like with id3 tags on
mp3s. Can you somehow 'wrap' the video files, adding the metadata onto the
file, so that I can sort by, say tv show, season, episode, guest star, etc.?
If you managed to do that, you would be doing the world a huge favor. Even
better, enable Media Center to view video files like it can already with the
music.
What do you think?

In the Recorded TV folder (Details View) sort a column header by clicking on
it. If you don't see the header you want, right click any header and add the
additional header.
To enable Media Center to view video files add the folder(s) to "Watched"
folders.

Please log in for more thread options I have plenty of 'watched' folders. The problem is that there is no recorded
TV, since I don't have a tuner. I would simply like to add metadata to my
existing files, and for Media Center to read the metadata so it can sort
appropriately.

Please log in for more thread options If you don't have a Recorded TV folder why did you ask about "tv show,
season, episode, guest star, etc."?
In any event, my answer applies to any folder "Watched" or otherwise.

Please log in for more thread options Perhaps I was unclear. I have video files from my own DVDs that I backed up
onto my own HDD. These files are sitting in avi, mpeg, or divx format,
depending on when I did it, and what my HDD size was at the time. These
files have no metadata attached to them, because that is not inherent in
their formats, like with mp3, which has id3. Some of these DVDs were TV
shows. I would like Media Center to recognize them as TV Shows, and organize
them according to TV series, season, and episode, like my music can be
organized by artist, album, and track. My question and suggestion remains -
I would like a way to tag these files so that Media Center can organize them
like my music library is organized. This can't be a very difficult problem
to solve. We can do this kind of organized sorting with music, why not with
videos?
