hi --today websites on our server started throwing 401.1 Not Authorized
error. We checked several things but no help. Finally found that network
users are denied access on the system (since IIS anonymous users access
sites via network rights). Using "Local Security Settings" MMC we navigate
to Local Policies > User Right Assignment. Double click on "Access this
computer from network" and add "Everyone" to it. When this is done, sites
start to work properly. After few minutes sites again stop, when we check
local security setting our settings are vanished and "Access this computer
from network" is blank!

This problem is driving us nuts beside costing business since client's sites
are down. We checked server, there is not virus etc. Any help is
appreciated, we are will to pay for help.

Thank you!
Aziz

and, if in a domain, is it a DC (since poster says "after a few minutes")

To poster:
If it is in a domain, check all GPOs that may affect the IIS box, or use
resultant policy capability of GPMC, to verify that no GPO is setting
this user right on the IIS box.
