AF is a/the solution if you need to develop cross-platform and or want to
use the VB6 or .NET IDE (makes debugging much easier). If you only
need/want to develop for Palm and are not bound to a certain IDE, then
there are cheaper and/or more performant solutions.

Very cheap for example is the PalmOS Development Suite from PalmSource ...
it's free. Of course it requires to write your app in C/C++.
