A message to those of you testing the next versions of ActiveSync
on v5 devices:
Does Bluetooth synching work any more seamlessly
between a notebook and any of the three new v5 devices?
* Smartphone v5
* Pocket-PC v5
* Pocket-PC Phone Edition v5
Any limitations?
I have never got it to work effortlessly with 2003se and v3.8 . .
. even when USB synch works perfectly.
Thanks,
Jim Kelly

There are quite a few articles about how to set it up..... there are also
MANY forum entries asking how to make it work!
I think its one of those things: If you follow the instructions and it
works, then it will continue to work without any issues.
But if something happens, or something is different preventing the
instructions from working, then you are into a load of re-tries and hassle.

Please log in for more thread options Thanks Chris, I suspect that these are indeed very wise words.
Thankfully there is always the option to use the cradle or cable,
which seems very reliable . . .
I think my problems arise from not being sure which COM port is
the one to use . . . so I just tried different ones. Perhaps the
trying (of a wrong one) caused the subsequent difficulties?

Please log in for more thread options It works just as good, no better and no worse, for me than USB cable
syncing. Since my Bluetooth interface is a USB interface anyway (a dongle
plugged into a USB port), I just use the cable, if I have it with me (and
always use it with my desktop PC). As far as I know, with WM5 devices,
there's no significant advantage to Bluetooth.
I have a PPC PE (K-Jam). I doubt that PPC w/o PE is any different, though.

Please log in for more thread options Hi Paul (and others),
Thanks for your comments.
I am a long time PPC user and am sure that my next device will be
a PPC-PhEdn (v5). Have you noticed any differences of note? I
understand that the 'press & hold' facility does not work. Is
this true? Also, notes cannot contain diagrams or handwriting?
I would have taken the plunge already but I can't imagine not
have a VGA display (the JASJAR is just too big!). Perhaps I will
go for a SmartPhone (i-Mate SP5) and keep my HP hx4700 . . . but
I understand that even more features vanish if you step back to a
SmartPhone . . . Pity.
Cheers,
Jim Kelly
