I have two Users on my WinXP pro machine (all patches installed).
... using a new hx4700 iPAQ with Activesync 3.8 (new install, not used A.S.
before)
... running MS Office 2003 with all patches .

1st user) Admin acct... connects/creates partnership, everything works fine.
within 10 seconds all items are sync'd.... several hundred contacts, cal
events, files, etc... very impresive actually.

2nd user) Power user level... connects/creates partnership, tries to sync
and gives error "Attention Required" on every item. I select "Resolve
issues" it tells me it cannot sync, try reconnect, blah, blah... which is
useless (thanks MS!)
note: this acct has been in use for two years... but the Outlook2003
profile is brand spank'n new... never existed until I installed the A.S 3.8
and tried to sync. I did a Help\Repair on OL2003 and also did a pst scan
(which it did not need since it was minutes old at the time but I figured
I'd try since other posts suggested it).

Anyone know what the heck is going on or how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Are you synchronizing the same Pocket PC using two different user
accounts? This could cause confusion with the unit, as it thinks it's
synchronizing to one profile, rather than two.

Also, if you elevate the Power User to Admin, do you get the same
error messages?

Hi Rob,
I first tried to sync with the 2nd acct... not the first. After 3 hours of
trying group post suggestions I tried the 1st acct... which worked fine.

I raised the acct to Admin, no change.

I tried syncing via wireless & USB, same errors.

something is wrong in the AS3.8 profile or AS is looking in the wrong place.
How can I ensure the specifics are correct for that user?

One other thing... on the acct that worked, when I check 'Files' to sync, it
poped up a msg about creating a files folder and such. On the acct that did
not work, it never did.

thanks for the help!

Hi,
ActiveSync writes data to the registry so using the Power User will cause
you some problems.

Beyond that to find the problem, try unchecking the items in ActiveSync,
sync until you find the category causing the problem. Then create a new
folder in Outlook, cut your data of that type and paste it into the new
folder. Sync and then move them back until you find the item causing the
problem.

Chris,
The first thing I did was read your FAQ page (fantastic btw!).

All items give the error, immediately.... I can delete the partnership and
recreate one... within 2 seconds all items say 'attention required' - but
again, the other user on the same PC works perfectly every time!

I already tried ALL suggestions I have read in newsgroup and web site posts
going back 2 years... including:
a) creating a new PST
b) running Outlook 2003, Help | Detect and Repair...
c) running scanpst.exe

There must be a better way to troubleshoot this. It is pittiful that after
all these years AS does not have a better way to log/debug.

To anyone on the MS team developing this app... shame on you for not making
it easier to troubleshoot!

btw.. I'm not just spouting off, I worked at MS for 5 years. I know first
hand what they CAN do, but do not.
