OK, first I am not savvy to all the technical jargon, so please keep your
answers simple and basic for someone who admittedly knows just enough to get
themselves in trouble, like I am now. And thanks in advance for your help.
Now the question:
I have an HP media Center m7076c with Windows Media Center Edition 2002
SP2 installed, although the label says 2005. I called several places
INCLUDING HP to be certain that I could install 4gb of memory on this system.
I was assured yes, that once installed, all I needed to do was to download an
upgrade from either HP OR Microsoft, that allows the system to see all 4 GB
of memory, and activates the dual memory. I was told that the system woudl
only show 3.5 GB of memory, but would still use all 4 GB. The HP tech even
tried selling me the memory right then and there.
So now, I have purchased the memory elsewhere, better and cheaper than
what HP sells, and have installed it, but, no one has any idea what I am
talking about, no one knows anythign about this download, Microsoft watns $50
or $$100 to even address the issue, and can't tell me first if there is
indeed a download for this problem. Hopefully, somoene here nows what I am
talking about, and can direct me to the download I need.

Thanks

Where did you look? You want to be IN the MCE program to see what version it
is.

Uhm.. you didn't say what the problem was.

Many mainboards can only access 4gig of memory space. Some of that space is
taken up by hardware, so can't be used for memory.

If you put in 4gigs and only get 3gigs or so, that's the best that you can
do. There *MIGHT* be a BIOS update, but it's unlikely.

THe problem is that I can not find the download so that XP can see the
added memory, it only shows 2.86, and does not recognize the other 1.14g,
with this download, it should show 3.5GB of RAM, as the .5 is used for video,
and other hardware.
