I have a desktop system, although it's more akin to a laptop (see image -
http://www.talkingpix.co.uk/XperianComp2.jpg). It is installed with a
Toshiba SD-R6112 slim-line DVD-RW drive which now will not recognise any DVD
inserted but still reads & writes CD's OK.

I was looking to get a replacement drive and figured that going for an
updated model by the same manucturer would give me the best chance to avoid
any compatibility issues. The Toshiba SD-R6472 seems to me to be a decent
choice (plus & minus, 8 speed where the 6112 was a minus at only 2 speed).

Am I likely to come across any compatibility problems with this upgrade? I
have heard that laptops can be very picky as to which devices can be
installed, and as this unit is for all intent & purposes a laptop, I'm a
little wary!!

TIA

The issues, if there are any, are likely to be mechanical and involve
the front bezel/tray interface.
