My disk say MSME2005 but under properties it is listed as 2002 w/sp2 and when
I try to install Media player 11 I am told that I need Update rollup 2 but it
will not load as it, (and any other download for ME2005) says that I do not
have a supported OS.
?

The version of Media Center is different from the version of the core
operating system. To find your version of Media Center go to Settings,
General, About Media Center, Software Versions. In some installations, the
version of MCE will not match what is being reported in the Registry. This
can cause various applications and updates not to install. See
http://www.salloway.org.uk/mediacenter/util/index.htm#ident for a utility to
correct this, if the registry information is wrong.

Thank you. The fix worked perfectly. Downloaded ident10.zip and used the
enclosed VersionSet.exe. Reset the version to 3.1(MCE 2005 Rollup 1). I
then installed Rollup 2 and was then able to install Media Player 11 and all
the other updates for MCE 2005.
Sometimes Niven is wrong and there is justice.
