I have several files which cannot be deleted off my miniSD card on my
SMT5600 resulting in error message "Failed to delete <name of file>". They
have the system attribute checked off. I tried it on my desktop in Explorer
too! Does anyone have a suggestion to remove them?

First off, what kind of files are they. If they are, or were associated with
a program, they may be in use. If you have deleted the program, you may need
to turn off the phone and back on so that these files are not still in use.

thanks for the reply sven. they are jpegs and .wav files basically. i have
turned the phone off, but no luck. i have been able to delete jpegs and wav
files only if they didn't have the system attribute on. so, i am not sure
what do now. any more input would be much appreciated. thanks.

jpegs and wavs are typically not a problem. Might you have these selected
somewhere to be used, such as ringtones or backgrounds? If so, select
something else before trying to delete the files.

Barring that, you might try deleting them using a card reader on a PC, but
be aware you might get an error, if something is looking for them later.

Another, somewhat safer option, would be to change their extension, then
reboot the phone. That way if something is using them, you can always change
them back.

Thanks again, Sven, for your input. I will try the card reader -- none of
the other things seem to work. But why am I unable to change a file's
system attribute off?
