Hey..

Please help. I just got a dell 510m and the touchy touch pad is driving me
nuts. I'll be typing and barely touching the touchppad and suddenlly be
typing somewhere else in the message. Its very annoying. Is there a tweak
out there to solve this problem?

No, please don't suggest getting a secondary USB keyboard

Don't know of any way to completely turn off the touchpad while typing,
but the problem is probably associated with 'tapping' which usually can
be turned off while typing (or permanently as I have it set). Click on
your mouse controls in the control panel and see if there is a setting
to turn off tapping while typing.

If it's a Synoptics then there should also be a way to adjust the
sensitivity so that resting your palm on it won't register as a tap.

Funny you mention it, because today is the first time I've switched off my
touchpad to get some typing done. I switched it off by clicking on
something in the taskbar, but try looking under mouse controls in the
settings if you can't find one in the taskbar. Also, as someone else has
mentioned, try reducing the sensitivity of the pad, though this isn't a
complete fix as your thumb knuckle is just a bit too similar to a finger to
dicriminate.

Duncan.

Hello everyone,

Nope couldnt find anything to turn off the touchpad.

Hmmm.... just checked and the touchpad drivers are not loaded into the
machine.

I'm just using the default MSmouse driver.

I'll load up the touchpad driver and see whether that will help.
