I have a similar problem (but I suspect due to different reasons). I had been
able to find and download the 02.05.0001.1119 version of the MSN toolbar
which was working fine for some time when all of a sudden this morning (I did
a windows update last night) the whole directory that this was installed in
is gone! Furthermore the only downloadable version i can find on the Internet
now are earlier versions and I really am not a big fan of moving backwards.
Thomas, as for your situation, when you install Outlook 2007 it normally
removes MSN Toolbar Search and as part of the installation installs the new
3.0 search engine. However, currently I believe only the engine for 3.0 is
available; the GUI toolbar that uses the engine is not yet available. That
means you only have the built in searching in Outlook (which is much better
in 2007 but still far inferior to a full desktop search). Sounds like somehow
it didn't fully remove your toolbar and now the GUI you have is unable to
find the old 2.x search engine and unable to connect to the new 3.0 services.
That's just my theory but I'm sticking to it for now. :^)
Hope that helps.
