I am attempting to record shows during the day when I am at work and late at
night. I realize that unlike my tv pvr, I need to leave the computer on all
the time. Is this a problem? Is there a way around this?

If your computer hardware supports it, you should be able to hibernate
your machine and the MCE scheduler will wake it up to record the
programmes.
