Hi,
I'm a programmer and looking for a simple HTML-editor which
creates standard conform HTML and makes it possible to write
documentation straight ahead. It should be availabe under linux
and windows.
I maintain a small website and for this purpose I write with
docbook/website xml and convert it to HTML via stylesheets
but this is overkill for some lightweighted developer documentation.

Any text editor can be used to write standards-compliant HTML. But
since you want one that's available under both Linux and Windows, you
have at least these to choose from:

Acme
Alphatk
ed
GNU Emacs
jEdit
NEdit
Vim
XEmacs

OTOH if you really want an editor that creates HTML for you, then I
believe the most house-trained one you'll get (at least that exists at
the moment) is the Composer facility in Mozilla.
