When one does a non-destructive System Recovery in an HP XP MCE 2005 I'm told
that all programs are untouched but resurrected, and that all files are also
intact, but may be re-organized if the author is not complying with the
default organization, e.g C:\Documents and Settings\.... etc. Is this true?
If so, what happens to the Hierarchy one might use such as many folders in
the C:\ drive and many of your .docs in the C:\MyDocument folder, and many
ancillary folders in the C drive under specialized topics, e.g. C:\FDA etc?

You probably need to ask HP this question as it is their recovery program.
Normally, you wouldn't have just a C:\My Documents directory, they would all
be under the C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\My Documents\ directory.
I would imagine that the HP recovery would just ignore something in a
non-standard directory if it is just "reviving" the system software, but
again, only HP would have the definitive answer.

I used the hp recovery option on one of my client's computers once (not
MCE). It basically puts you back to square one. Even the free trials begin
again and can be used again (Norton specifically). Also, all the previously
loaded programs worked too. I was pretty happy with the way it worked. No
data was lost.
