About once a week when I boot, it takes a long time (over 1 hour), before the
Run light on my computer goes off. Something is running, but I can't tell
what it is. It happens prior to me starting anything. I'm not online and
the Task Manager doesn't show any programs that would account for it. Is
there any other way for me to determine what is running?

www.whatsrunning.net - it's an excellent program and lets you fine tune your
startup programs, services, etc.

I've already customized my startup with Autorun, and eliminated
tasks/programs that I didn't need. I don't see anything there that would
cause this to happen. It appears like its installing updates, but I don't
have an online connection yet, so that's not likely. Is there a way to tell
what's running when its executing?

Unless you can Ctrl-Alt-Del and bring up Task Manager, I don't know of a
way...

You can login to Safe mode and see if that gives you a better clue...it
could be a driver...
