I've been using PuTTY for a few months to connect to a remote Linux server
(RH 7.2) No recent changes have been made to the server config.
Local system is Win XP
Over the last few days PuTTY has sporadically refused to connect. It just
sits there for 2 or 3 minutes and then pops up the following error message:
PuTTY Fatal Error
Network Error: Software caused connection abort
This is the output from the Event Log:
2003-08-25 07:55:10 Looking up host "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
2003-08-25 07:55:10 Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 22
2003-08-25 07:55:11 Server version: SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.1p1
2003-08-25 07:55:11 We believe remote version has SSH2 RSA padding bug
2003-08-25 07:55:11 We claim version: SSH-2.0-PuTTY-Snapshot-2003-08-21
2003-08-25 07:55:11 Using SSH protocol version 2
2003-08-25 07:55:12 Doing Diffie-Hellman group exchange
2003-08-25 07:55:13 Doing Diffie-Hellman key exchange
2003-08-25 07:55:15 Host key fingerprint is:
2003-08-25 07:55:15 ssh-rsa 1024
2003-08-25 07:55:15 Initialised AES-256 client->server encryption
2003-08-25 07:55:15 Initialised AES-256 server->client encryption
2003-08-25 07:58:38 Network error: Software caused connection abort
I have turned on logging, but there is no output to the log file except this
=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= PuTTY log 2003.08.25 08:14:11 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=
If I use another ssh client to log in to the remote things work OK. And I can
see that putty tries to open a ssh connection:
Aug 25 07:54:19 secure kernel: ** SSH ** IN=eth0 OUT= MAC= :::::::
SRC=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx DST=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=113
ID=34824 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=2274 DPT=22 WINDOW=16384 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0
But no connection is ever made.
I reinstalled a few days ago with the most recent stable. And that
seemed to fix the problem until this morning - when it reappeared.
So I tried a reinstall with the latest snapshot but the problem still
2 other ssh clients are working OK
any thoughts please?
