I have a OpenSSH server (new build) and have created a $HOME/.ssh
folder and copied the contents of the public key generated by puttygen
to that file by cp command.
I can log in directly to the IP address through my VPN tunnel (with
Puty) and have used SCP to copy files through this tunnel.
I am loading the private .ppk file under connection Auth and then when
I try to use the auto-login name under connection data of the putty
client I get a Putty fatal error that says server unexpectedly closed
network connection nearly immediately.
the error only happens when I try with the private key. It is the
private key exactly as puttygen supplied. Do I need to do anything
elsewhere to get the autologin, public-private authentication going?
TRhanks in advance

---END tags and now I get a server refused key and prompts me for
password. This may make it a little easier. I forgot to mention I did
the chmod go -w for the authorized_keys2 file
