Are there any small smart phones available that will work on verizon?

I have gotten used to my audiovox smt 5600 on cingular, but find it
lacking in the phone reception, especially since cingular
decomissioned a tower near my office, so I must switch networks.

I dont need or think i want a keyboard. compact is best, and good
reception without an external antenna is important, since it would be
primarily a phone. i use it mostly to listen to streaming audio news
with windows media player and the core pocket media player. i cant
believe that verizon has the gall to prohibit streaming music with
their pocket pc plans.

Sales people have steered me toward the following pocket pcs and i
find these to be too big and lacking battery life and high quality
phone features that i want.

samsung sch i730 Is there a hardware or flash upgrade to wmobile 5.0
soon?

audiovox xv 6600 evdo

treo 659 or 700(soon?)

Or I can wait for the MotoQ and pay the big price?

htc apache verizon version coming soon?

Or maybe just buy a evdo capable non-windows phone . if the browser
connects to yahoo mail and the media player works for streaming audio,
that might suffice for now.

motorola E815
samsung sch - A970
samsung sch - A950
LG vx 8900 (The V)
nokia 6256i

Or buy a verizon, pay as you go phone until verizon comes out with a
good compact smartphone.

This decision should be a lot easier, but verizon doesnt seem to have
the solution. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Usually you can just drop your SIM into a Smartphone and it will work on the
carrier's network. That's not always true and I'm not a Verizon user so I
don't know if this little trick will work or not (I know it does on
Cingular).

Do this may not give you all of the functionality Verizon offers on their
P/PC Phone units.

Are there other Verizon users out there who have tried to do the ole' SIM
switch and gotten it to work?

Cheers,

Add the Blackberry 7130e to the list of devices being considered.
Sure wish that ran WM5 instead of RIM OS.

Most of the pocket PCs have keypads that are barely readable. I like
the T9 predictive text modet of the Audiovox smt 5600, and the
Blackberry.

CFitch your post is totally unrelated to mine, please repost under a
new heading.

Thanks. I wouldnt call the treo small, but it sounds interesting. In
fact it might be a better form factor than the samsung sch i730

i'm considering a samsung sch i730. From what I've read, the next
upgrade to the Samsung willl eliminate wifi and add GSM for global
roaming. I'd rather have wifi option, and disable it when not needed
to save on battery drain, weak battery is the biggest weakness of the
samsung phone that i can tell. my smt 5600 gets about 4 hours of gprs
browsing before the battery gets weak.

i already signed up for notification when the MotoQ is available, it
may be what i'm waiting for, if they dont cripple all the good
features that is. i bet it wont be cheap. Anybody have any idea what
it will cost with a new service contract?
