Hi,

I am trying to upload files to my webspace from work. I can do it from my
home computer, to the same space, and with the same router as the one at work
and it works fine. But i cant do it from work. it says it has uploaded the
file but the file size is 0kb. i have checked the router and it is just
standard firewall settings, the same as the one at home so that cant be it.

So I am wondering if Server 2003 has some built in firewall which is
preventing ftp. It is the DNS server, that is the only difference between
that and my computer at home. So is there some sort of security setting, if
so how can I dissable it or reduce it to allow ftp?

Many thanks in advance

James

Windows 2003 Server does have a built in firewall and it's capabilities are
different depending on if it has Service Pack 1 installed on it or not. It
also can be configured to log dropped packets which can be helpful in
tracking down problems with connectivity. SP1 Windows firewall, unlike the
previous version - ICF, can be configured with exceptions for ports and
applications and a scope to limit the exceptions by subnet or IP
dresses. --- Steve

Logon as a local administrator and go to Control Panel and find network
connections. Find the network adapter, right click to select properties,
select advanced and you will see windows firewall settings box. The link
below may help. There are two versions of firewall on Windows 2003. The
original ICF firewall and the enhanced Windows Firewall if Service Pack 1 is
installed. --- Steve
