Help! I'm usually the technologically savvy one, but when a friend of
mine asked me what web hosting company would be best for their
business, I had no idea. I have tried searching online, but I have no
idea what most of the technological terms mean (such as PERL, VPS,
SSL) The following is their requirement (they have a small business
that sells less than ten products / services):

# They need access of certain parts of the Electronic shop (e-shop) to
be restricted to certain members
# Unlimited Disc Space
# Unlimited Data Transfer
# At least 250 email addresses with unlimited storage and at least
10MB of attachments; catch all; free aliases; mailing list
# Free Site Building/ Design Tools
# Hosting of the Web Site & ability to accept payment through pay pal,
Visa, Mastercard, and Discover plus Free Shopping Cart
# The ability for customers to create usernames and passwords to log
# Interactive chatting between customers and support
# Site Statistics
# Online Gift Certificates and Coupons

Thank you !!!!

"Unlimited Disc Space" and "Unlimited Data Transfer" do not exist.
Figure out your present and projected future needs.

Don't assume that the same vendor has to provide email and web
hosting.  Those are two different skills.

Try pair.com for hosting and tuffmail for email.  You won't go
wrong with either of them.

I support what you say about pair.  I have changed web hosts three times
now, and settled with pair.  They even have a tech support department
that gives prompt and helpful responses, something almost unknown in my

Tuffmail is also very, very good.  Other email service providers talk
about having effective spam filtering, but they either let a load of
spam through or lose legitimate mail.  The best thing about tuffmail
is the ability to create unlimited email addresses.  If you sign up
to website ABC with an email address like ABC@example.com and you
sign up to website XYZ with an email address like XYZ@example.com,
then later start getting spam to XYZ@example.com, you not only know
who the spammer is, you can block XYZ without interfering with ABC.

Here are some web hosting companies that I have personally used.

JKA Hosting offers Red Hat Linux plus these free features:

Templates, Blogs and Forums, and Shopping Carts.  In addition, the
company offers Unlimited Domains, Unlimited Databases, Spam

I started using JKA Hosting in mid-May 2008.  I have not used any of
the freebies that the company offers.

Crystal Tech offers the latest Microsoft .NET features at a reasonable
http://www.crystaltech.com/ price is at $2.95 per month.

I used Crystal Tech for another website for over 2 years and still
using them.

Omnis offers Unix web hosting and has a lot of freebies as well.
Free Unlimited Disk Space, Unlimited Data Transfer per/month,
Unlimited POP3/IMAP4 Email Accounts, Unlimited Forwarding Email
Accounts, Unlimited Hosted Domains, Unlimited Domain Aliases,

I have used Omnis for over 5 years and still using them.

Another one is OCS Solutions (http://www.ocssolutions.com /).  It has

Hi Maisura

You seemed to have opened a hornets=A1=A6 nest, especially regarding the
level of service and reliability, not withstanding costs of hosting in
the UK!

Unfortunately they are right, you definitely can't get unlimited disk
space, and usually only get unlimited bandwidth when its of an
inferior quality and reliability.  It would be best to determine what
it is that you are looking for.  The secured location is not difficult
to get, either through a shared SSL or your very own. But you should
definitely be able to combine email with your hosting, especially if
you go for a Virtual server or even a dedicated one (of course
depending on your budget!), but most good shared hosting providers
would be able to combine email and web hosting. But just remember at
the end of the day one pay's for what one gets :-)

Notwithstanding all of that, I am going to throw my hat in the ring,
to trialBA and fly the British Flag!  Although our prices are not the
cheapest, we really focus on quality service, at good prices, and
would suggest that we are most definitely worth a visit and a short

I would check out http://www.domainregandhosting.com .  I think they
will have most of what you need, including a Quick Shopping Cart, web
hosting packages, e-mail packages, ssl certs, marketing tools, etc.  I
have about a dozen sites thru them and am very satisfied.  They throw
in a bunch of freebies when you purchase hosting plans.

I sent an answer but most likely it went to the author of the last
post instead of the group.

The best I have seen up to now, because it includes all tools
mentioned plus more, including hosting, software and excellent (free)
manuals going beyond having a website towards having a business in
internet, without all balloney associated with this type of business.

See:  http://compare.sitesell.com/website-marketing.html

On that same page you will be able to to compare features offered with
major suppliers by clicking around the middle of the page on:
