weird website domains (dutch site)

Hi Guys,

I stumbled upon something 'weird' yesterday which I'd like to share
with you for your thoughts.

the website (PR=6) has multiple
websites which have the same content. It looks like they use a
wildcard for the 'www' part of the URL.

When you type in (or use or own
name or anything you like) you get a website (PR=0 btw) where all
links have been changed to go with the 'new' url. So when you go to
the website mentioned above you get deeplinks to instead of /. Every deeplink on
this website has been changed accordingly.

Although I have never before seen anything like this, will this do
anything (positive) SEO-wise? Duplicated Content I would assume, but
why would they do this?

Please share your thoughts and I thank you for them!

with regards,

PS: If anyone knows how they technically do this, I'm interested!

It seems that duplicate content only applies when it is duplicate on one
site. So when you copy content from another site, it isn't condidered as
duplicate, that is what I think. And different subdomains are considered as
different sites.
