- Switching from a static to a dynamic site..

listings. All IBLs and search engine pages point to static (html) pages. The
shopping cart is generated by Miva Merchant.
My plan is this:
1. Add all the features we want to the dynamic part of the site and use it
as the main all encompassing site.
2. Email all known IBL websites to tell them to update their link to the
knew dynamic URL
3. No longer market the static pages, but keep their content up to date
until they drop out of Google/Yahoo etc. free listings.
If we were to phase out the static part of the site, as above, and make the
site entirely dynamic would we plummet out of the search engines? Or can
Google, Yahoo, MSN etc read Miva dynamic pages as well as .htm pages?

a comment on Point 2.
Oh that sounds like fun.
a comment on Point 3. That'll encourage most search engines to continue to
rank these pages as long as they are available. If you want them gone then
get rid of the pages and the rankings will go, eventually.
Totally depends on how you do this. Do it well and your rankings may even
improve, do it poorly and your rankings will reflect that. The idea here is
to ensure that the search engine can navigate to the new dynamically
generated pages and extract the content. It's all about being spiderable.
I don't know an answer to this, i'm not familiar with MIVA.
