I'm trying to separate a site's web usage log entries between hits by actual
people using their browsers and hits from search engine robots, mirroring
crawlers, etc. Many of the User Agent strings that show up in my web usage
logs consist of random strings of characters. Does anyone know if these are
more likely generated by a bot or by a browser with an actual user behind

I get a vanishingly small number of these - about 0.005 to 0.006 percent
of overall hits. The (apparently) random string changes for each access
by the same user. My best guess, so far, is that this is a browser with
a rather silly feature.
