is part of a site with a ranking of 6 or 7, does the link carry much
weight for PageRank purposes?

Nice idea though. If PR transfer was a % of the average PR for the
whole site plus a % of the PR for the home page for the site plus a %
of the PR for the page it would make it much more difficult for
webmasters to choose how PR is transferred (and thus manipulate
If Google were to add such a system it would overnight radically
change their results, I guess more than Florida did. So many sites
where the links out are buried many levels deep to avoid PR
All % applied would be secrets of course and the complexity would make
it much more difficult for webmasters to manipulate.
Just a thought.
Now they've got their ipo out of the way and the overriding need for
stability has gone, can we expect further radical algo shifts?
I have been travelling long term in s. america and europe recently and
constantly search for discount hotel providers on the net with very
little success. The local travel agent usually wins and sometimes I
pay ca. 50% of the best price I can find on the net for the same
hotel. I believe this is down to seo such that the few sites that
offer good rates comparable to local agents can simply not be found.
